Meteorologist

Meteorologist as it is commonly called is also known as atmospheric scientist. If you are one who is curious about your surrounding atmosphere, the climate, the weather, the hurricanes and the tornadoes, this career may suit you and satisfy your curiosity. The job of the meteorologist involves the use of high technological radar and satellites to study the occurance of tornadoes, rain, flood and hurricanes.





The knowledge is then passed down to the relevant broadcasting authorities where the population is warned of the inpending danger and the steps that need to be taken to safeguard their lives. The study and application of the weather information are used in global warming, ozone layer depletion, air pollution control, defense, agriculture and in transportation system.

If you intend to pursue this career, your basic knowledge of physics, chemistry and mathematics must be strong. A bachelor degree in meteorology, physics, or chemistry is the minimum educational requirements. If your inclination is towards basic research in meteorology, it is recommended that you pursue your education up to doctorate level.

  • Weather Forecasting is the study of temperature, humidity, wind conditions and air pressure to determine the short term and long term weather forecasts. These days, one can get an accurate 5 days weather forecast from newspaper, radio, television and the internet.Meteorologists use high tech equipment among which are weather balloons, weather aircraft, weather satellites and radars in various stations of the earth. They shared their data with one another and come up with weather forecast of the major cities of the world.
  • Researcher study in greater details the patterns of a certain occurance. They study the effects of global warming by collecting data and plotting its trend using powerful computers.The knowledge gained will help the authorities to implement solutions to reduce the global warming effects on the earth. Researchers are also trying to find out the paths and patterns of tornadoes and hurricanes in their quest to provide as accurate information as possible to the public to save lives.
  • Lecturing at university and college is another field where you can branch into. Many continue to do basic research with their students and find this job to be rewarding. After all, you get paid to do what you like and this is much better than working in the corporate world where you may be assigned to do a certain task which may not be of interest to you.
